During the days following the September flooding in the Village of Wellsburg, several large rollback dumpsters were used to clear flood debris.

Casella Waste Services was contracted to provide the dumpster service. Residents were allowed to bring flood debris to the dumpster site next to the Wellsburg Fire Department and it was also collected at curbside by the Highway department. Tons of debris were collected and taken to the landfill in Lowman.

The bill for the entire project was $29,137.64 FEMA reimbursed the Village $22,057.98 for the cost of the dumpsters. This left a balance of $7079.66 that needed to be paid.

Working with Deputy Chemung County Executive Mike Krusen, Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange, was able to secure funding from the county to pay the balance of the bill for the Village of Wellsburg.
