At it’s meeting on September 13th, the Southport Town Board voted to revoke the license of the Brookside Trailer Park on Cedar Street.

The revocation was suspended for six months to allow the owners of the trailer park to legally challenge the revocation in court, should they choose. If they choose not to challenge, or if they lose the case, the park would automatically close in six months.

The trailer park is in the 15th legislative district that is represented on the county legislature by Rodney J. Strange. At the meeting Strange read a statement supporting the boards vote to close the park. “As the Brookside Trailer Park has deteriorated over the years, the condition of the neighborhood surrounding it has suffered as well,” Strange said. “I want to thank you for helping to restore the quality of life that the residents in that area deserve.”

In an interview with WETM-TV, Strange said that he has talked with neighbors of the park over the past year and they have told him the park has been a nuisance to the neighborhood and the owners have had a chance for a long time to fix the problems and they haven’t. Strange said that the quality of life for the residents has been going down hill for the past several years.
