Chemung County Legislator Rodney J. Strange worked with City Chamberlain David Vandermark to facilitate the transfer of the out-of-service rescue truck from the city fire department to the East Hill Fire Department in an effort to bolster the department’s rescue services.

Strange was contacted by East Hill Fireman Bud Baldwin asking for help in obtaining the old city rescue truck for East Hill to allow them to have all their rescue equipment in one vehicle. Currently, they have their equipment stored in several different trucks. Strange contacted City Chamberlain David Vandermark to seek help in getting the truck. Vandermark contacted Baldwin and arranged a meeting with city workers at the city yard where the vehicle was stored to see if the truck met the needs of the department. East Hill inspected the truck and decided it would be a much needed addition to their fleet of trucks. The city charged the department a minimal $100 for the truck.

In his effort to support the fire departments in the 15th district, Strange reimburst East Hill with a $100 donation to cover the cost of the truck. “It is important for me to support those who serve the people of the 15th legislative district, especially our firefighters, who put their lives on the line to help our residents,” Strange said. “I will do whatever I can to help the East Hill, Wellsburg and Southport Volunteer Fire Departments. They provide a vital service to the people of the 15th district. I want to thank the City of Elmira and Chamberlain Vandermark for their help and cooperation in this important transaction.” Strange looks forward to seeing the new truck once it is refurbished later this year.
