Chemung County residents can now find out who’s in jail or who hasn’t paid child support with a few clicks on their smart phone or other mobile device.

Sheriff Christopher Moss on Monday unveiled a new app available for free download to smart phones or Droid products and allows the user to look up registered sex offenders, receive emergency alerts, submit tips, or look up and contact any division of the sheriff’s office.

The App is a product of Appriss Inc., the same company that does victim notifications when inmates are released, Moss said. It’s being made available to sheriff’s offices throughout the state free of charge.

Users can also view the same information at county jails throughout New York State with other sheriff’s offices that participate in the program.

Smart phone and mobile device users can obtain the service by going to their app store and searching for mobile patrol. Once the app is downloaded, the user can search for Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
