Chemung County Executive Chris Moss has proposed a sales tax cap on gasoline at $3 per gallon and an elimination of the sales tax on energy bills for the next 6 months. Legislator Roney J. Strange is a strong supporter of the proposal. “The legislature can’t pass this legislation fast enough,” Strange said. “Our residents are hurting and this is one small way to ease the burden.” On April 13, 2026 the Budget Committee unanimously passed the two resolutions below. They were forwarded to the Full Legislature that unanimously passed them at their Regular Monthly meeting immediately following the Budget Committee meeting.
