The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony on the front lawn of the Chemung County Jail on June 17th to announce it has recieved re-accreditation from the New York State Sheriffs Association for the county jail.

Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli and 15th District legislator Rodney J. Strange joined Sheriff Christopher Moss, Under Sheriff William Schrom, NYS Sheriffs Association Exectutive Director Peter Kehoe and members of the Sheriff’s Office as Sheriff Moss was presented with a plaque signifying the accomplishment.

In order to be accredited, the jail has to be inspected by an outside agency and meet or exceed 144 standards. In New York state, less than half of all jails qualify for the accredidation by the association.

“I wish to congratulate Sheriff Moss and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and Chemung County Jail for this prestigious accomplishment,” Legislator Rodney J. Strange said. “This could not have been accomplished without the hard work of many people including Major John Hamula, Captain Dan Mandell, Officer Ray Hodge and others who helped to make this happen.” “It was an honor to join the Sheriff and the members of his office at the accredidation ceremony,” Strange said.

The re-accredidation is good for five years.
